Dr. Ganesan’s research program is aimed at understanding the role of macrophages in melanoma using advanced imaging techniques. Specifically, Dr. Ganesan is examining how the immune system recognizes melanocytes during the initiation and progression of melanoma, and is also examining the role of the immune system in vitiligo. He has mentored 6 PhD students, including 2 URM, 5 of whom already graduated. He has also mentored five postdoctoral fellows, including two URM. He also mentored Jessica Flesher, a  PhD student with a learning disability, and who was supported by a cancer biology training grant. She also obtained a UCI Gazanniga family fellowship and is a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University.
