Research Interests

My research focuses on the chemokines of the mucosal immune system.  The mucosa is an important barrier tissue that prevents pathogens from entering the body because it is in continuous contact with the environment. The mucosa includes tissues such as the oral cavity and the vagina, and the chemokines are important mediators that chemoattract specific leukocyte populations to the mucosa to mediate immune responses. Our lab is working with two mucosal chemokines (CXCL17 and CCL28). I am particularly interested in CXCL17 and its role in the immunity and inflammatory responses of the gastrointestinal system.
